donate nowThis 54-foot monument commemorates the historic discovery of Spindletop in 1901 — the breakthrough oil strike that transformed Texas from a rural agrarian state into an energy powerhouse. Spindletop ignited an industrial revolution, propelling the United States to become the #1 energy producer and a global leader ahead of both World War I and World War II. The Wellspring of Progress honors the discovery and the pioneers whose grit, ingenuity, and ambition built Texas and fueled American prosperity. As the largest sculpture in the Greater Austin area, this monument stands as a testament to Texas's pioneering spirit and its continued leadership in energy innovation
